10s V Dungoyne

The match was very even throughout. Both teams attacked and defended well, and both midfields cancelled each other out in the centre of the pitch. It was going to take something special to break the deadlock. Halfway through the first half Dungoyne played a hopeful ball from the wing which somehow the attacker managed to hook over his head into the top corner leaving the keeper with no chance. Ards didn’t let this bother them and continued to stick to the game plan. A ball played into the box ended up in a melee of players which saw Ards put the ball into the net. Unfortunately an infringement on the keeper meant it was cancelled out.

The second half continued the same as the first with both teams matching each other in every way. Dungoyne played a hopeful high ball into the box and an Ards defender trying to head it out ended up unluckily looping it over his own keeper and into the net. Ards kept fighting hard and a ball played from the midfield to the winger. The winger made a nice turn and played it through to an Ards forward. A one on one resulted in a lovely finish into the bottom corner. Unfortunately this was also disallowed and deemed offside. With only 5 minutes left Dungoyne played a low hard ball into the box which took an awkward deflection off an Ards midfielder. Unfortunately this deceived the keeper and sneaked over the line.

It ended up being a frustrating morning for the team. The positives to take out of it were that Ards didn’t at any point give up and drop their heads. Instead They kept working hard as a team and stuck to the game plan.

A Man of the match choice was difficult today as there were two players who stood out- the right defender and right midfielder. Their work rate was relentless from start to finish. It was deemed fairer to give it to them both.
