Another Saturday and another late goal sends Ards players and fans home in despondent mood from rain soaked Q Radio Arena. It all started so brightly when the returning David McAllister set up fellow returnee Mark Kelly twice in the first ten minutes, the first effort was saved and the second was thwarted by a great defending tackle. Although they forced a few corners, in truth this was as good as it got for Ards and while there were no clear cut chances for either side for the rest of the half, Johnston was the busier of the two keepers, forcing Donnelly wide when he should have at least got a shot on target and tipping a strong shot over the bar on 44 minutes.
Warrenpoint were on top for most of the second half as Ards struggled to find any real rhythm or create any chances, their only noteworthy effort being on 56 minutes when a good ball from Mitchell led to Kelly putting his effort just wide of the far post with the keeper beaten. The Point were making some quick breaks and both Byers and Elebert were cautioned for tackles which came in the "taking one for the team" category. However, apart from a couple of balls that flew across the face of the goal and a couple of hasty clearances from the Ards defence, Johnston wasn't really tested and it didn't look like the home team were going to break the deadlock either. In fact when McClean made a great tackle inside the box in the 88th minute a draw seemed inevitable. However, in a repeat of last week's game, the opposition found a way to the bye line and although Johnston and the defence appeared to have blocked the initial effort at goal, the rebound fell kindly for Alan O'Sullivan who gleefully fired the ball home on the 90th minute. The fourth official signalled five additional minutes but the home side were able to slow the game and there was no sign of an equaliser.
