2003s v Greenisland Robbie Mateer Premier Division
Friday night saw us take on Greenisland in the first league match of the season. After a mixed supplementary cup we were looking to carry the performance from the last game into the start of the league.
Ards started the brightness and created a couple of chances but were unable to break the deadlock. Greenisland then started to build into the game and Ards were under the cosh for the last 15 mins of half half and it was in that period when Greenisland took the lead.
Again Ards started the second half brightly and were looking the more likely to score and they got the equaliser when David A played the play to Curtis and his shoot found the bottom left corner. Ards got their second after a good period of possession in midfield and Cutris played through to Krystain who seen the Greenisland keeper coming rushing out and he calmly took the ball round him slotted home. Ards went 3-1 up from a free kick of left hand side which alex delivered into the back and Curtis headed past the Greenisland keeper. Greenisland got their second of the game from a mix up between Ards defence and keeper and the Greenisland forward nicked it to put the ball in the back of the net. Greenisland were pushing for an equaliser and got in from a penalty. With 5 minutes left Ards were awarded a free kick on the right hand side about 25 yards out, Curtis stepped up to hit the free kick and what a free kick it was, it flew into the top left corner of the net. A goal worthly of winning any game.
